2019 SA Firefighters Calendar Selection Night

2019 SA Firefighters Calendar Selection Night

    It's getting HOT in here!

It's that time of year, when firefighters across South Australia put down their hoses, pick up their dumbbells, and watch Magic Mike for “educational purposes”… Friday 4th May saw a sellout crowd pack the Arkaba Hotel for the 2019 South Australian Firefighters Calendar Selection Night.

With a new venue and fresh format, this popular SA event soared to a new level of entertainment, fun and humour. Fourteen potential candidates hit the stage in front of an exuberant judging panel of 600 spectators. They impressed with their best Risky Business impersonations, The Bachelor rose ceremonies, riding of Ponies, and shaking of a little Salt-N-Pepa, while a rugged Cowboy lassoed the crowd for their votes. The night was filled with a range of new and old school costumes that eventually came off to reveal South Australia's fittest and sexiest firefighters!

During the intermissions the huge crowd was treated to live acoustic music, which had the whole room singing along to some favorite hits. There was also a chance for some hotly contested participation from the crowd, as five lucky audience members were brought up on stage to battle it out for some great prizes. Each with the help of a firefighter – clad in nothing but their underwear – the contestants raced to see who could dress up the fastest in a firefighter’s complete protective uniform. We may have found a couple of new recruits!

Once all the t-shirt ripping, pants dropping, and booty shaking was done, a live voting pole opened, and 600 over-excited fans reached for their smart phones to vote for their favourite acts to ensure they made the cut in next year’s calendar. There were four special categories to find who would be crowned Blue Steel (Best Looking), Lord of the Dance (Best Dance Routine), Chiseled from Stone (Best Physique), and Audition King (Most Popular Over All).

A night of fun, frivolity, selfies and screaming continued into the after party, where patrons let their hair down, trying out a few dance moves from their favourite performances, and mingling with the firefighters.

Be on the lookout at iconic SA locations over the next few weeks, as firefighters who’ve lost their shirts will be posing for the cameras. Production of the 2019 calendar is now in full swing and is set to be released at the hottest event of the year: The 2019 South Australian Firefighters Calendar Launch night - set for Friday 17th August 2018 at HQ Complex.

    Testimonials:

‘The selection night was outrageous fun. The fireys really know how to put on a great show, with plenty of music, muscle, and shirt ripping! The audience loved it, and were left screaming for more. The whole event was slick and professional from start to finish, and an absolutely great night out with the girls!'

    Alicia, West Croydon SA

'What more could a group of girls want for a girls night out? A bunch of gorgeous, sexy fireman dancing and strutting their way across a stage and even better when it’s all to support a great cause. It is a night of pure entertainment and 'good old' belly laughs, highly recommended!'

    Easter Spirit exceeds Targets!

The SAMFS World Police & Fire Games Club would like to thank you for your kind generosity in supporting the 2017/18 South Australian Firefighters Calendar.

In conjunction with TeamKids - the fundraising platform for the Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation, 100% of all proceeds made from our calendar sales in Rundle Mall over the Christmas period were elected to be donated to support the Burns Unit at the Women's and Children's Hospital right here in Adelaide.

Members of the SAMFS WPFG Club were fortunate enough to attend the TeamKids Easter Appeal which was held on Good Friday, 14 April 2017, and were extremely thrilled to present a cheque for $20,120.00. This contribution has helped to reach a tally in excess of their $1 million target, with the current tally of funds pledged at $1,587,337!

Funds raised from all other organisations as part of this year’s Appeal will also go towards a range of projects including the TeamKids Arts in Health program, a purpose built and fully furnished Beach House in Victor Harbor for use by families with a child requiring palliative care or with complex care needs, and a revolutionary new cancer research project known as CAR-T.

There were so many highlights this year and TeamKids are overwhelmed by the generosity of the South Australian community, the talented performers, and volunteers who gave up their time over Easter to support this important cause. In 2017, for the first time they enlisted the help of six Young Ambassadors who co-hosted the Appeal. Clara, Lauren, Jessica, Tara, Josh and Jordan are all ex-patients of the Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH).

The SAMFS WPFG Club would like to Thank You again for your contribution, whether through the purchase of our Calendar or other avenues, making this years’ Easter Appeal such a success. Your gift will help change the lives of thousands of women, babies and children who rely on the Hospital every year.

You can still purchase your copy of the 2017/18 South Australian Firefighters Calendar online or at any Drakes Foodland Supermarket, or donate directly to TeamKids by following the prompts on our Donations page.

New laser technology to help WCH burns patients

On Thursday 15th September 2016, members of the Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation and the World Police and Fire Games Club joined TeamKids - Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation at the launch of the new 'Lumenis Ultra Pulse CO2 Laser' at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

The laser was purchased for the Burns Service thanks to funding by the Australian Professional Fire Fighters Foundation ($105,000) and the World Police and Fire Games Club ($45,000) and will allow burns patients at the WCH access to advanced laser technology for the treatment of burns scars.

The Laser will help reduce thick scars from severe burns and is expected to significantly reduce the rate of operations and contracture associated with burns scars.

Head of the Burns Service at the WCH, Bernard Carney, is excited that the WCH can offer children this therapy in a public hospital setting.

“Over the last five years, the WCH Burns Service has seen an increase in the number of major burns in very young children who will consequently require up to 17 years of ongoing medical treatment,” Mr Carney said.

“The laser will improve the appearance of burns scars for these children and lessen the hardening of affected skin tissue, helping to make healing a quicker and less painful experience.”

The Ultra Pulse Laser can penetrate scar tissue more deeply than other CO2 lasers, and can therefore treat scars that were previously thought to be untreatable by laser therapy.

It works by making microscopic holes in existing scar tissue and stimulating wound healing over and over again. This process eventually remodels the burns scar and makes it softer and more pliable.

“It is also hoped that with ongoing laser treatment, burns patients will experience improved mobility as well as enhanced cosmetic appearance,” Mr Carney said.

The Foundation is proud to have collaborated with the Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation and the World Police and Fire Games Club to support and recognise their incredible fundraising efforts.
